Mnemiopsis leidyi?
Description and Comments
Hello. I am in the south of Cabo de Palos, in Spain. I usually watch for the jellyfish in August and this year I have seen one that I never saw before. I have been looking in internet and I saw that the most similar jellyfish is the Mnemiopsis leidyi. I am nearly sure is one of this kind.
I have found information about the danger for the ecosystem, but It is dangerous for humans? I have a little baby and I am very worried.
Thanks a lot. And sorry for my english, I am not english speaker.

First, you don't have to worry about it being dangerous. Lobate ctenophores have no way to sting.
Second, this could be Mnemiopsis, but there are also several native lobate ctenophores in the Mediterranean.
You should contact Vero Fuentes at Proyecte Medusas to discuss this in Spanish and with someone in the area. You can find her from our jellywatch facebook site.
