Sea Combs (Ctenophora) at Balmoral
Description and Comments
Spotted a transparent jelly that had four lines disecting it's body. It was small, fitting into the palm of my hand, about 2.5 cms across.
I've tried searching for a photo but can't find anything resembling it, except for a comb jelly (Ctenophora) - I wonder if that's what it is. We encountered them about 350 metres offshore and the other swimmers felt them too. They are hard to see and feel jelly-like to the touch.

Could be a ctenophore, but was it grape-shaped or hemispherical? There should be 8 tiny "ribs"but it might look like 4. Can you upload a sketch?

Imagine a child on halloween wearing a sheet over his head and you will get a general idea of what its' shape is like. Sort of bell shaped but with little structure in the body. Clear as mud right?!
