5 fried egg (cotylorhiza tuberculata) jellyfish and one moon jellyfish (aurelia aurita) which is unusual

went for the normal 20 minute swim with mask. i saw 5 of the fried egg types and one moon jellyfish that was floating on the surface upside down. no mauve stingers in sight. the fried eggs were fairly large, about my hand spread width at the top. only one had a little fishy friend tagging along.

why i say that it is unusual is because in the 3 years that i have been regularly swimming here, typically from april to october, i have never seen the fried egg jellyfish before this summer. also, i have one seen one moon jelly dead on the beach in the same period of time. 3 years is not a long enough span to draw any conclusions, but i figured i would put it out.

the conditions were good. light current, east to west. no wind, little waves. water was pretty clear, with some fair bit of natural debris on the sand bottom. two days before there were heavy winds, so i suppose there were also heavy waves too. not much else. :D
