one jelly fish in the past month, moon jelly (Aurelia aurita) (revised)

since the last time i wrote in i had 2 weeks of swimming with no sightings. about 10 days of bad weather and/or rough seas. but for the past week it has been good swimming again. on monday, the water was not as clear, about 10 m visibility, with very distinct thermal layers and some surface debris. as a swam out i passed one jelly, a moon jelly. i think it was dying because it was missing it stingers and was tumbling in the water instead of the usual movement. the head was probably about 22cm (7") across. but i have not seen any since then. my wife has commented that she is surprised that i have not seen more.

several good sized octopi. i think several were mating since there were two under the same rock and another nearby. that lasted for 3 days and they were gone today.
