In specimens of Jimble
In specimens of Jimble (Carybdea rastonii), pink coloration is common. It could also very well be a specimen of Carybdea xaymacana, although I am unsure of their range in the Southern area of Australia. I often consider C. rastonii as two separate species. This specimen is very similar to both C. rastonii and C. xaymacana. I would formally classify the specimen as C. rastonii due to the thinner pedalia, absent of the bulge that C. xaymacana exhibits. This specimens gastric markings are also indicative of C. rastonii. I would classify this as a cryptid species. Carybdea rastonii roseus. The pink coloration has become more distinct and noticed over the years, more in the Southern Australia region, less in the New Zealand region, where perfectly clear specimens have been observed.
