Chiropsalmus sp.
Description and Comments
This was from a video posted recently on YouTube,(http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LG643o7ylzg).
This sighting is very important because 1) I have never seen reports of any Chiropsalmus past July. 2) this specimen is extraordinarily healthy, with very long tentacles.
Found at Charleston Maritime Center.
I am headed there to see for myself, and try to collect some. :)

Wow. Crazy. Let us know what you find.
This could actually be
This could actually be Chironex. If so, this would be the first proof of Atlantic Chironex. Oh, and if you find any, it might be a good idea to preserve them.

That is very true. On my trip, I found 8 box jellies. They all had little to no tentacles, unlike this specimen. I preserved the largest and the smallest in an saltwater-isopropyl- glycerin solution. The smallest degraded, but the largest is still present. I also have a preserved box jelly in straight isopropyl from Myrtle Beach. Regardless of their genus, their species isn't right. C. quadrumanus is found in South America and those specimens don't match the ones here by DNA. I frozen a bunch of tissue and I will send that over to be identified. Who knows what will come out. :)
Thank you! Someone finally

Thank you! Someone finally agrees with me! Awesome!
I am glad that you preserved the material. It may be vital for the discovery of a new species. Now... we have proof.
By your opinion... do you think they might be a Chiropsoides or Chiropsella?
Hmm...

If you both agree, I could send you each other's e-mail addresses to help continue the collaboration. (Probably better not to post them here due to spambots.)
Ok.
