Aequorea sp. in Monterey Bay
Description and Comments
Plenty of large Aequorea up at the surface in slicks. Plenty more just below the surface as well. Medusae were gray and blue in coloration. Collected many large ~20cm specimens for mating, yielded planulae the next day. C. fuscescens (100+), Phacellophora (11-99) and Aurelia labiata (11-99) also present in good numbers. Had not observed Aequorea this summer until now, may have arrived the week prior though as I thought I saw a piece of one.
