Giant purple strip jelly spotted in Monterey Bay

Description and Comments

Saw an incredibly large Chrysaora colorata off Lovers' Point today. Was at least 1 meter in bell diameter with ~ 4-5 meters of oral arms left, they were clearly torn/tattered. This is the largest, completely intact, specimen of C. colorata I have observed to date. Only saw one.

Bolinopsis and Pleurobrachia were abundant at the surface and Eutonina was found in a sub surface plankton tow.
