Aurelia aurita washed up
Description and Comments
I saw at least 50 washed up at Lauderdale by the Sea, FL in a half mile walk just north of the pier at Commercial Blvd. This was one of the largest, as shot next to a child's sand toy that was about 5" in diameter. I washed the sand off a bit so the bright red gonads (I think - I am not a scientist, but looked up info on the web) would be visible. Others varied in size from around 5 inches and up. They were in great condition at this point. I picked this up to look at it underneath - it was smooth. I didn't see any tentacles at the edges. There was no sting.

These have been washing up on
These have been washing up on Daytona Beach for the last days. This is the first time in a long time I have been to the beach, any idea why this is happening?
