Man of War on Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island
Description and Comments
I am wanting to report this sighting of a Portuguese man o' war that I saw on Misquamicut Beach this Saturday morning, 26 July. I took pictures of it if you need to confirm it. I just read up on this type of jelly fish and was concerned when I read "it is rare for only a single Portuguese man o' war to be found; often the finding of one results in the finding of many.[4] Attitudes to the presence of the Portuguese man o' war vary around the world. Given their sting, however, they must always be treated with caution, and the discovery of men o' war washed up on a beach may lead to the closure of the whole beach."

It is a bit of an anomaly,
It is a bit of an anomaly, but not unusual for them to appear occasionally in that area. There was big news a couple years ago when they blew ashore of Martha's Vineyard. As you have no doubt figured out: look but don't touch. Those ones are hefty stingers.
