Walking along the beach between Ponto Beach in Carlsbad, CA and Leucadia/Encinitas, CA, about 12 By-the-Wind Sailors along the beach. It was high tide and high surf, due to a storm in New Zealand. Some appeared to still be alive, but they were stranded in the sand.

I don't think I've ever seen a population explosion of Velella this big in my 4 years of marine biology.
