Very interesting! Obrigado.
Very interesting! Obrigado. Do you usually see Pelagia noctiluca out there?
We are seeing the same
We are seeing the same jellyfish here near Faja dos Bodes, Sao Jorge Island Azores. I got stung badly by what i think was a Pelagia noctiluca 2 days ago in a natural pool at Faja d'Ouvidor. A child got stung on the face a few days earlier at the same place.
My husband spearfishes and i snorkel a lot and we are seeing more jellyfish that are different with brown spots on top this year. Then there are some really unusual ones that are lighting up as they swim through the water. Like a lighting system on a UFO? Not sure how else to describe.
Last year there were a huge amount of floating things on top of the water.. they were orangish in color and we were cautious but there were so many, that we wondered if they were jellyfish but they didn't appear to sting. They were the size of the end of your little finger floating.
The ones lighting up like

The ones lighting up like UFOs are ctenophores, as you probably figured out...
I did find a photo online
I did find a photo online that looks like one of the Jelly fish that are unusual that we are seeing this year. Not sure how to submit though.
