Bioluminescence in Pacifica CA
Description and Comments
Friday and Saturday evening, Oct 12 & 13th exhibited strong dinoflagellet presence as the waves crashed with neon green intensity. Waves were observed from Manor Drive going south to the Pacifica pier between 10 and 10:30 pm. Reports tonight (10/13) from Ocean Beach also report high bioluminescence at 9pm. I am looking for more information on this phenonema in the area: any suggestions?

I highly suggest checking out
I highly suggest checking out Tomales Bay, for a Bioluminescent kayaking experience... its much more spectacular than seeing the waves!
Thanks- that sounds amazing.

Unfortunately, bioluminescence is not very predictable — just can follow general trends: windless periods after runoff, late spring and late summer. There will be some level of bioluminescence at any time, so going out on a moonless night can also increase your chances of seeing something.
Thanks so much. That is
