Bunch of Jellyfishes on the shores of Port Barton, San Vicente, Palawan.
Description and Comments
My high school batch mates and I went on a 2-day outing in Port Barton, San Vicente, Palawan, 1-3 April 2010. Port Barton is more than 3 hrs away from Puerto Princesa and has been a constant tourist destination. The last time I had been in Port Barton's crescent-shaped beach was in 2002, when I went there 3X, all in the same year.
I was so excited to see Port Barton this time and to swim once again in its crystal clear waters. It's just that this time, we were astonished to see large jellyfishes being washed ashore. The locales were divided as to whether the jellyfish species got stinging tentacles. We still took a swim but I got stung on, of all body parts, my lips. It wasnt grave but I felt the pain lasting til the next day. The first time I got stung by a jellyfish was when I was in the 1st grade with the jellyfish's stinging tentacles scattered all over my belly. The pain was excruciating, I can still recall how it was. Some of the scars have gone up my lower chest now. Luckily, I survived. I've heard stories of children who died from the jellyfish sting.
How unfortunate for Port Barton, a very lovely beach, to be invaded by this sea animals! I signed on this site after searching on ways as to how these sea creatures can be controlled. There must be some way of controlling their population and driving them away from areas/shores where people live, and yes, swim.
