2 species of jellyfish at Lu Impostu beach (Sardegna)

Description and Comments

More than 40 Cotylorhiza tuberculata of various sizes (some in groups of 5 or 6 close together), and 2 Rhizostoma pulmo observed while snorkeling in the late afternoon about 200 meters from shore at Lu Impostu beach. Very few of the C. tuberculata had the small fish that usually swim around them. All jellyfish were alive and active, although some looked in better shape than others. Visibility was poor (about 5 meters), and there were lots of small pieces of plastic in the water. Water was very warm (estimated temperature 25 Celsius), and the sea was generally calm.
