dead shearwaters

Description and Comments

Many dead Shearwater birds have washed up on many beaches of North East Tasmania. This seems to happen as a normal phenomena, but perhaps there are more this year. They seem to have died over the ocean and have been washed in with the tide. I have seen bodies in rock pools in the water and throughout the intertidal zone into the vegetation area where I have detected them from the smell. Others are half buried in sand. They have been at all beaches I have visited recently and I have not seen this many in past years. I have only lived in ST Helens Tasmania for 5 years.
