Saw well over 100+ Velella velella in a short amount of time while on a fishing boat transitting between Santa Cruz Island and Channel Islands Harbor in California. I was busy so I didn't watch long, but there were probably thousands about. It was a sunny warm day, with a good breezy. The swells were pretty calm
