Solitary scyphos here and there

Description and Comments

Over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed an average of about one solitary scyphomedusa per day, as I walk down to the dock. These are either medium Cyanea capillata (BD ~5-15 cm) or large Aurelia labiata (BD ~ 20-30 cm). Despite these individual jellies, I haven't seen any major aggregations around Deep Cove this summer (although I haven't been up Indian Arm lately, where there are often large blooms of Aurelia near Silver Falls).
