Velella bloom in the western mediterranean sea
Description and Comments
Velella velella, from 40 nautic miles off saint mandrier (Var, France) to Scandola (Corsica, France), during 3 days of navigation, blooms of Velella velella. These jellys covering the surface of the water as far as you can see. Not that much bioluminescent jellyfish species during 2 nights of navigation. Lot of Mola Mola (about 15 observed in 2.5 days, which is definitely more than usual) possibly associated to much more jellys, (1 carreta carreta turtle observed too). Very few dolphins, no whales observed. Water temperature about 15°C, no particular meteorological event the days before.
