Bioluminescence in Corolla NC

Tonight we were walking on the beach in Corolla NC and when we turned off our flashlights we realized that the sand was lighting up under our feet as we walked. Then we realized the crashing waves were also glowing. We originally thought this was due to the reflection off the moon, but the moon was nowhere to be seen. We were all acting like kids, jumping, kicking sand, moon-walking...all to see the sand light up. We found that this was only visible along the med wet sand where the water had receded. What an amazing night!
