Bioluminescent sand in Kismet, Fire Island
Description and Comments
Small specks of bioluminescence were glowing in the sand and sparked up when the area nearby was agitated. They were not noticeable from far away and were not densely concentrated, but a notable number were still present on observation, especially when disturbed. The white glow was emitted by crystalline specks that splintered into smaller pieces (still luminous) when submitted to force. It was a phenomenon only on sand damp from the water.

Thanks for letting us know. Sounds like probably dinoflagellates (small specks).
