First Aurelia of the season

Description and Comments

Did a 56-minute dive at a max. of 66 feet at Grey Rocks Island. Spotted a solitary Aurelia labiata specimen at the end of the dive near the dock in about 10 feet of water. The specimen was fairly large at 8-10 cm in diameter. It has been a relatively chilly couple of months with only a few scyphomedusae sightings but spring bloom is currently in full swing.
Also saw copious amounts of small jellies on the dive, especially the cross jelly Mitrocoma cellularia and the ctenonphore Pleurobrachia bachei.
