Lions Mane Jellyfish and Gooseberry Comb Jellies on Hornby Island BC

Description and Comments

While walking along the shoreline of Whaling Station Bay, enjoying the warm water, we found a small Lions Mane Jelly. It was orange/red and around 8" across. It seems early for us to be having them around as we tend to find them more in July and August. This one also seemed rather small. Usually the ones we find are more like 16" across. This one was in amongst the seaweed at the edge of the sea. The tide was coming in. Also in the water were many Gooseberry Comb Jellies. I always enjoy seeing the beautiful colours rippling along their cilia.
