Swimming benthic snail Gastropteron

Description and Comments

I've been seeing one or two swimming Gastropteron pacificum each time I walk around on the lab docks in Friday Harbor, Washington, over the past week. These benthic snails are swimming up from the mud about 60 feet deep below the docks, and use wing-like extensions of their foot to swim, flapping like butterflies.
