Atlantic Sea Nettles

Description and Comments

Lots of Atlantic Sea Nettles (Chrysaora quinquecirrha) washing up on Myrtle Beach. Most specimens were actually found on damp sand, completely out of water. What was both strange and interesting is that all of the specimens were in phenomenal shape. Nettles found directly on the beach are usually missing all of their oral arms and may have holes or sand in their bells. These specimens had long arms and were very healthy. None of the beached specimens were dead either. We collected about 17 specimens, but saw around 20+
