Velella -- Bodega Bay, CA -- 3/6/2016

The recent storm brought many Velella velella (millions?) to Salmon Creek Beach in Bodega Bay, CA, on 6 March 2016. There was a broad range of sizes, but most were ~1-2 cm long, and none were >3 cm long (see photo). Other gelatinous animals included pyrosomes, Corolla pseudoconchs, siphonophores (e.g., Chelophyes, Diphyes, Physophora).
