Luminescence on Crystal Beach

When walking down the beach very late at night, my friend and I discovered that whenever we stepped in the damp sand, an area around our feet about 8 inches in diameter lit up like an aerial view of a heavily populated city. The light was bluish white and some of it was much brighter than other areas like stars. It was on a stretch of beach less than 50 yards wide.
