Large Number of Egg Yolk Jellies (southern Puget Sound, Washington State)

Description and Comments

While kayaking this evening my daughter and I were very surprised by the number of jellyfish we encountered. Egg Yolk jellyfish are common in our area, just not in the numbers we saw this evening. Had we been counting I'm sure we could have reached 500 in less than a half mile of paddling. We both had to stop paddling multiple times (didn't want tentacles all over our paddles) as we drifted through tight groups of them numbering around 30-50. We were about 100 yards from shore (she's new to kayaking) and decided to go out further to get away from them. Didn't work, just found more.
