"Fresh" Pelagia Noctiluca off Cap Camarat (France)
Description and Comments
From 6:00 to 15:00, I observed hundreds of jellyfish (pelagia noctiluca only) off Cap Camarat, France. They were located just beside the rocks up to some 300m offshore (I didn't go farther). A strong southward current was present (the Northern Current completely "glued" to the coast?).
There were hundreds, and they were fully alive (with all the tiny filaments intact). All sizes were present as well.
Interesting to notice how the night before, a very strong (40 kts) Mistral wind had blown from Marseille to Toulon, with a front clearly located between Toulon and the obwervation site (Cap Camarat). The wind had blown only during some 9 hours or so, and had completely dropped off at 6:00.
