Chiropsalmus sp. Washed Ashore At South Jekyll Island
Description and Comments
A two inch wide and two inch tall bell with four small pedalia and up to 5 fingers on each one. the mouth is shaped like a four-point star and is frilly. Two of its "points" are long, while two of them are short. Unlike the species Chiropsalmus quadrumanus, it carried no nematocyst warts. Its fragile tentacles were beaten of the speciemen in the waves. It had a normal velarium and a stomach shaped like a four-leaf clover. It was transparent and almost perfectly cuboid, with slightly rounded edges and 8 oval/circle shaped gonads. It is believed to be a unofficial species known as Chiropsalmus carolinensis
