Olindias phosphorica (Cigar jelly) in the Florida Keys
Description and Comments
One medusa was found on Cudjoe Key on June 11, 2016 and two medusae were found on Big Pine Key on June 12, 2016. I have lived in the lower Keys for 20 years and have not interacted with this species before. All 3 were found at the surface, when their painful sting alerted us to their presence. Any additional information about their native range is greatly appreciated?

Thanks for the report and
Thanks for the report and sorry about the sting! Hard to say if it is all the exact same species, but there are publications on their distribution throughout temperate to tropical regions, including Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa, and the Mediterranean...and now Cudjoe Key. ;^)
