Salps at Santa Cruz Island CA
Description and Comments
Thousands of Salps were drifting in the ocean out at Santa Cruz Island both weekends of July 20 and 26. Coves that they were observed were Little Scorpion, Albert's and Coches Prietos. In some areas they were all gathered together making the water appear like jello. Many salps seen were the jelly ball form that when observed from the boat had a bright blue spec in them. The other types noted were the pink pyrosome, the string of salps w/brown dots possibly named the Salpa fusiformis-brown eyed salp. And then of course as a victim to the tides, many were beached.

Very interesting. Just when
Very interesting. Just when it sounded like this was going to be a low-salp year compared with last year.
Interesting. I spend a lot
Interesting. I spend a lot of time at Anacapa and have seen just a few this year on the south side of the island.
