Many greyish purpole jellies on del Monte beach, Monterey, CA
Description and Comments
I saw about 50 of these on Del Monte Beach on Sat 6/1/13, in various states of ... shape, fragment, and aliveness. Please help me identify. I'm very curious what they were, as I've never seen them before in my 12 years here. Greyish purple, with black flecks, an orange dot inside. I am guessing that it is a jellyfish, but do not know for sure.

Did they smell like
Did they smell like watermelon/grapefruit?
Sorta kidding, but this looks like the nudibranch Melibe.

Probably washed ashore from the kelp beds.
Thanks for the report!
Ha ha. I don't know what it
Ha ha. I don't know what it smelled like, but several of them looked like grey raw chicken breasts, seriously. It does look a bit like what you posted ... though all the photos online seem to be glamour shots and these were not too cute. This photo is of THE cutest one. :-)
ps I have a couple of vidoes and more photos if interested. I think you are right about what it is. Some of them looked a bit like a snail or even a squid, but I think you got it!
