jellyfish, pyrosoma atlanticum, salps

shaw's Cove in Laguna Beach Ca has been teeming with all of the above the last few montha. We are all getting stung repeatedly. Salps are so thick it is like noodle soup out there. The tunicates were in various sizes, from 1 inch to about 6 inches. I was stung by a black sea nettle...swam into it and it was wrapped around my neck and shoulder. Baby jellies go dow our suits. I had 6 in my suit yesterday. In January we had 5 sunfish, but none sighted since. Have seen various colors of jellies..from white, yellow, clear, purple stripe, black-purple...and of various sizes. Seems as if there is increased activity when swell and surf is up...doesn't seem to matter about tides. Don't notice if water temperature makes a difference, but seems to be more active when there is a ssw or s swell direction.
