Moonee Creek part of the Solitary Islands Marine Park, North Coast NSW

Catostylus mosaicus is floating out in numbers on the outgoing tide not seen before in the last 14 years we have lived here. It is a relatively shallow tidal creek and the catchment has been subject to major works with the Pacific Highway upgrade, which has impacted on run off patterns and flushing during storm events. There is planned to be significant development along the creek line, with only a narrow riparian zone planned by local council. The creek is now noticeably shallower with a huge sand accumulation near the mouth and mangrove species are coming up in places previously not seen there.
