Pelagia noctulica bloom at Gujarat Coast
Description and Comments
There were number of live and dead individuals spread across the coast of Shivrajpur, a Coastal town 15km south from Okha. The site is famous for its high aesthetic value. It is also well-known for the Coral diversity in shallow intertidal area.
The Jellyfish bloom was quantified using random quadrate method and estimated to be 74 +/- 31 per meter square of area.
The event have been increasing since last few decades and has become major socio-economic issue for the coastal industries and livelihood. Checklist of such events or common platform where such information can be shared is great benefit for research community to use this data to find the reasons. I deeply thank Jellyfish watch and associated staff, member and people from scientific and non-scientific background who consider to shared such events and made available for greater good.
Thanks
