Still lots of large Aurelia

There are lots of Aurelia labiata around Indian Arm these days. In the 13 years that I've lived here, I would say this year is in the top 3 in terms of abundance. Also interesting is the fact that they are extraordinarily large this year. While there are a number of size classes, most have a bell diameter exceeding 25 cm. Lion's manes (Cyanea capillata) can be seen only rarely, making this a year of relatively lower abundance for that species. Several Aequorea can also be seen around, although they are quite small (< 8 cm BD). I also spotted a large fried egg jelly (Phacellophora camtschatica) near Boulder Island the other day, a rare sight in Indian Arm.
