Stomolophus meleagris in Ormond-by-the-sea, Florida
Description and Comments
While on a research trip in July, I found a good number of Stomolophus meleagris (Cannonball Jellyfish) specimens. I was able to spot about 25 of them, and caught about 8, keeping 2 overnights, one of which survived. They caused a mild sting when moved about significantly, which was sourced from mucus they emit when disturbed. They were spotted for several weeks before and after my trip and people were somewhat puzzled by them. They washed up in the mornings around 9 or 10 AM and during the afternoon around 4 or 5 PM.
