Saw this guy in Huntington Beach, CA last night, 9/24/14. I've never seen one before and was very surprised to see one around here. I first I thought it was a By the wind sailor, which we have been seeing a lot of, but it was definitely different. Float was about 5-6" long, about 2" high and about 1-1 1/2" wide. The tentacles were about 18-20" long.

That is definitely Physalia. Very interesting. We got a couple reports from Southern California earlier but not quite that far north. Warm water and the right winds... Thanks very much for the report.
