Luminescent Jelly Fish
Description and Comments
Bio luminescent jelly fish spotted coming in with the waves on Chakratirth Beach in Diu. I am not completely sure if they were a kind of jelly fish because at night (around 3 a.m.) I didn't manage to see the jelly fish like structure but when I picked them up in my hand they were jelly like to touch and resembled mucus! And yes, they didn't sting or anything of the sort. Was completely okay even after handling them extensively in the excitement of having seen these magically light emitting creatures at night!
The sea is the Arabian Sea and this was a sand beach. These fish lit up everytime a wave rolled over on the sand and they had seemingly drifted onto the beach along with the waves. Everytime they felt any kind of vibration their bodies lit up. The creatures were almost transparent and jelly like, at night when I found them, they seemed like a lot of mucus I had picked up in my hand which on shaking my hand seemed to have singular dots of light lighting up it's entire mass.

Very interesting! Thanks for
Very interesting! Thanks for reporting this! It does sound like gelatinous plankton of some kind. Perhaps a hydromedusa, or parts of siphonophores?
