Purple-striped Jelly in Bodega Bay, California
Description and Comments
One Purple-striped Jelly (Chrysaora colorata) washed ashore on Bodega Head on 27 July 2014. We don't see this species as often in this area (Chrysaora fuscescens is more common here). I didn't have a ruler at the time, but I took a picture with my foot for scale (size 6.5 Xtratuf boot). I'd estimate the jelly was ~15-18 inches across.

Great! I think this is only the second sighting from that far north, rare indeed.
