Velella washed up in St Ives, Cornwall

Description: Spotted on the tideline yesterday on Porthmeor beach, StIves, Cornwall, England, large numbers of Velella Velella, most of them translucent, some of them still blue. Nearly all were 5 cm long, some longer. The wind had been strong the previous day, blowing from the west.
Organism: Other - thought it was plastic!
