Caudina arenicola (juveniles)

Description and Comments

Hundreds of gelatinous pink creatures washed up on the beach. About the size of large grapes, and had a fivefold symmetric structure. Bodies transparent, with a reddish globule visible inside. Most appeared dead, but a few showed some slight movement or pulsation. Gulls were eating them. My photos were identified by biologists at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
